Take a trip into a Californian desert and you’ll stumble upon quite a site. A massive solar farm, home to thousands upon thousands of mirrors harnessing the power of the sun. With fossil fuels under threat, solar energy is a resource we need to take advantage of.
The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is currently taking up a massive part of the California desert, but that isn’t a problem, because it is powering a multitude of homes. The solar farm holds three massive 450 foot tall towers which can be seen between 300 000 mirrors. These mirrors are run with exceptional software that allows them to follow the sun across the sky to take full advantage of it. The sun boils water which becomes steam, and this steam is turned into electricity. Harnessing the power of the sun offers us endless possibilities. With fossil fuels running out at an alarming rate, we need to know that we have an energy source that we can rely on. For as long as we will be alive, we will have the sun, so why are we not taking advantage of it? The truth of the matter is that people have come to rely on energy from coal, oil, and fuels, but these resources are not renewable.
From an energy source as powerful as the sun, mankind can attain all of its energy needs. We have electric cars, so when will solar power become the preferred form of energy to power our homes and lives?
